I have more than forty years of experience as a Petroleum Geologist, including a diverse background and understanding of techniques from both mature basins and undeveloped areas. He has worked on both surface and subsurface facies analysis, interpretation of depositional environments, stratigraphic modeling, and reservoir characterization. He has experience with seismic and well logs (sequence stratigraphy, evaluation, and correlation), many thousands of feet of core descriptions, and thousands of thin sections (petrography and diagenesis; thin section description, SEM and XRD analysis). Erkan is experienced particularly in sedimentology, depositional environments, facies analysis, sequence stratigraphy, and hydrocarbon accumulations in both carbonate and clastic reservoirs, with a specific knowledge of the Middle East.

– Managed and directed research projects from domestic and international markets, providing technical support, and mentoring and training junior geologists.
2007 – 2012: Senior Staff Geologist, Core Laboratories, Advanced
Technology Center, Houston, TX
– Provided carbonate sedimentology and petrographic descriptions for characterizing lithofacies, depositional environments, and paragenesis as an aid to reservoir potential and quality for the domestic and international markets (Middle East, Central Asia, West Africa, and USA).
2001 – 2007: Reservoir Geology Manager, Core Laboratories
International B.V. Abu Dhabi Branch, United Arab Emirates
– Managed, supervised, and implemented projects relating to reservoir geology, rock typing, and sedimentology (both single well and multi-well) in the Middle East (Kuwait; Umm Quadir, Wafra, Kra Al Maru and, Khafji, Bahrain; Awali, Qatar; AllRayyan and North Field, Oman; Shams and Safa, United Arab Emirates; Umm Sahif, Nasr and Bab) Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Ghawhar, Berri and Safaniyah, Qatar; Al Rayyan and Idd El Shargi), Caspian Region (Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan) and Pakistan.

– Managed and directed research projects for Saudi Aramco relating to the Ghawar, Qatif, and Berri oil fields in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Advised and guided graduate students in the Geology Department of the Research Institute.
1994 – 1999: Project Advisor, Turkish Petroleum Corp., International
Projects Group, Ankara, Turkey
- Supervisor to the exploration team for the Temir Block in Aktubinsk Region. Also evaluated various prospects and development of oil fields in the Precaspian and Ustyurt Basins in Kazakhstan. Most of the studies involved integration of seismic, well logs, and core descriptions.
1991 – 1994: Senior Staff Geologist, Turkish Petroleum Corporation, Exploration Group, Ankara, Turkey
– Carried out regional studies of the hydrocarbon potential of offshore Azerbaijan. o Evaluated prospects in the northern part of the Pre-Caspian Basin in Kazakhstan.
1985 – 1991 Senior Geologist, Turkish Petroleum Corporation, Exploration Group Ankara, Turkey
– Generated various prospects, offshore Turkey. Subsurface geological studies and prospect generation. Facies analysis (clastic and carbonate) and environmental interpretation using cores and well logs in the Thrace Basin. Also served as a wellsite geologist.
1980 – 1985 Exploration Geologist, Fenson Oil and Gas Company, Tulsa Oklahoma, USA
– Initiated structural and stratigraphic mapping projects in the Anadarko Basin, Oklahoma, and the Fort Worth Basin and Bend Arch, Texas. Prospect generation in Oklahoma and Texas using well logs, seismic, and other available data. Application of wellsite geology in Oklahoma and North Texas.
1977 – 1980 Exploration Geologist Turkish Petroleum Corporation,
Exploration Group, Ankara, Turkey
– Surface mapping in the Thrace Basin and Biga Peninsula for oil and gas exploration. Served as a wellsite geologist, including core description and well log analysis. Performed subsurface geological studies (isopach, structure, facies mapping) for development and exploration.
